The van Hoek Lab focuses on understanding the Microbial Physiology of Francisella tularensis, Antimicrobial Peptides and Bacterial Biofilms. We are situated at the SciTech Campus in Manassas, VA where we have created a creative, collaborative and productive Microbiology Research Laboratory.

Are you looking for an exciting lab in which to do your Masters or Doctorate Research in Spring or Fall 2024? We have an open research project for a student with experience with bacteria, PCR and cloning and one for a student with experience with bacteria, biofilms and proteins/enzymology. Please send your detailed experience in a letter, along with your CV and transcripts to Dr. van Hoek.

van Hoek is a part of the team who was recently awarded an R21 Trailblazer NIH grant. This project, alongside engineers Dr. Jeffery Moran and Dr. Rémi Veneziano from Mason’s College of Engineering and Computing, aims to tackle bacterial biofilms.
